ORANGEBURG, SC – South Carolina State began its second week of spring football drills Monday, working out in shells (shorts and shoulder pads) for approximately two hours. It was the fifth of 15 scheduled practices for the Bulldogs and got a more favorable assessment from head coach Buddy Pough than Saturday's workout, the first in full pads.
“Today's practice was somewhat better (than on Saturday),” Pough said. “We looked a lot better offensively, but had to push the defense more than usual, but they (the defense) had their moments.
“We are getting close to the end of our installation period,” he continued. “Wednesday, we will go in full pads again and should have a chance to simulate some of the low blocking as we prepare for the cut blocks we expect to see this season.”
During Monday's workout, the Bulldogs also devoted an extensive period to the kicking game, taking a look at some new personnel that may play some roles in holding and long snapping in 2010, Pough noted.
SC State's Wednesday practice is set for 8 p.m.
