ORANGEBURG, SC—The South Carolina men’s and women’s basketball team will host Hampton University, tomorrow (Sat. Feb. 6), in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) doubleheader, which gets underway at 2 p.m. with the women's contest at the Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center. The men’s game will follow approximately at 4 p.m. The women’s game is designated as the WBCA PinkZone® game in support of Breast Cancer Awareness. All fans are asked to wear pink in support of the initiative.
            The Lady Bulldogs are trying to rebound from a 68-53 conference loss to Florida A&M on Monday in Tallahassee. Junior Whitney Wiley lead the way for the Lady Bulldogs with 16 points.
            Senior Sophilia Hipps and Wiley are pacing the Lady Bulldogs (6-14, 1-7 MEAC) in scoring at 13.8 points. Freshman Paris Alston leads the team in rebounding and is third in scoring averaging 6.2 and 8.4, respectively.
            Hampton enters the game with a 10-10 overall record and 6-3 mark in the MEAC. The Lady Pirates are coming off a 64-48 win over the University of Maryland Eastern Shore on Monday.
        The SC State men (11-8, 5-3 MEAC) will look to make it three in a row as they are coming off a 77-62 victory over Florida A&M on Monday. Darnell Porter and senior Brandon Smalls led the way for the Bulldogs with 19 and 15 points, respectively, in the win.
        Senior All-MEAC guard/forward Jason Flagler leads the men in scoring with 14.5 ppg and 6.3 rpg, while Porter, a JUCO transfer is second with 13.4 points per contest.    
        The Hampton Pirates enter the game with a 6-14 overall record and 4-5 in the MEAC. In their last outing the Pirates defeated the Hawks of the University of Maryland Eastern Shore 79-65 in Princess Anne.          
        Both teams will return to action on Monday, Feb. 8 when they host the Bison of Howard University in an MEAC doubleheader. The Lady Bulldogs will tip-off at 5:30 followed by the Bulldogs at approximately 7:30 pm. Both games will be played in the Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center and can be heard on WSSB (90.3 FM) Radio.
