SC State Returns To Action On Feb.6.

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va.South Carolina State Daria Sekerina  was chosen as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Tennis Athlete of the Week, the league announced on Wednesday. Teammate Maria Craciun was named the Rookie of the Week.

       Sekerina (Sr., Latvia) guided her team to two victories last week. Against Wofford, she defeated Sabrina Smyers in straight sets 6-2, 6-3 at the number one position. In doubles action, she teamed with Craciun and won 8-2. In the win over Davidson, Sekerina topped Virginia Berry 6-4, 6-1 and won the doubles point 8-4.

      Craciun (Fr., Romania) won in straight sets 6-4, 6-2 at the number three position against Wofford’s Haley Baird. She followed that performance with a 6-0, 6-3 win against Davidson’s Ali Gores.

ORANGEBURG, SC – The South Carolina State women’s tennis team opened its 2010 campaign with a 7-0 victory over visiting Wofford Friday.

            SC State, 1-0, captured all three matches in doubles to earn the doubles point, then swept the singles for the shutout by Coach Hardeep Judge’s team. Wofford dipped to 0-2 on the season.
