Landover, MD—The SC State men's indoor track team finished in 9th place at the 2010 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Championships this past weekend. The championships were contested at the Prince Georges County Sports and Learning Complex in Landover, MD.
This year's ninth place finish was a two place improvement from 2009 when the team finished in 11th.
Marcus Stephens, who finished second in the triple jump, was the Bulldogs' top finisher on the final day of the day of competition. Stephens earned the silver medal with a jump of 15.01 meters (49-03.00). Senior Levar Knight earned seven points on the day finishing third in the high jump (2.05 meters) and seventh in the triple jump with a distance of 13.54 meters. Other top eight finishers on the day were Noel Facey who placed third in the shot put (15.46 meters) and Chris Ward who placed sixth in the 200 meters (22.33). Mark Elmore finished sixth and Christopher Lovett finished eighth in the heptathlon respectively. Elmore finished with 3804 points while Lovett pulled in 3537 points.
Despite showing improvement from a year, head coach Tyree E. Price knows the team can do more. “The men have made some significant improvements from the last place finish in the last three years, but the team is not satisfied,” said Price. “They know they can do better and are ready to show it during the outdoor season.”
The 2010 outdoor season gets underway on Saturday, March 5 in Savannah, GA at the Savannah State Eyeopener.
