Three SC State Performers Remain in NCAA Track

Track and Field Update

GREENSBORO – After Friday’s preliminaries, only three South Carolina State participants remain in the 2009 NCAA East Regional Track and Field Championships being conducted at the Irvin Belk Track.

Scheduled to compete for SC State on Saturday are junior triple jumper Jasmine Smith, who entered the competition with the 10^th best mark (12.77m) in the Region, freshman Shamire Rothmiller in the shot put (14.97m), and freshman Noel Facey in the men’s discus (45.93m).

On Friday, freshman Monique Gracia finished third in her heat in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 13.96 and a 20^th place showing overall, however, she failed to make Saturday’s finals as only the top eight advanced.

Also failing to advance for SC State Friday were freshman Donta Young in the 110-meter hurdles (14.67) and junior Nicole Mobley in the 100 meters (11.95), and senior Tempest Vance in the 400-meter hurdles (101.01), who as also third in her heat.

Two SC State Freshmen to Compete at USA Junior National Track

ORANGEBURG, SC – Two South Carolina State freshmen will be among the participants at the 2010 USA Junior National Track and Field Championships hosted by Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa June 24-27. Representing SC State will be former Spartanburg High School teammates Arnetra Frazier and Erica Peake, both sprinters.

SC State Comes Up Short at NCAA Track

GREENSBORO, NC – During the final day of competition at the NCAA Track East Preliminary Round at Irwin Belk Track on the North Carolina A&T campus, South Carolina State’s best chance for a trip to the June 9-12 NCAA National Track Championship in Eugene, Ore. was foiled with a bad exchange on the first leg.

Gracia Ties Personal Record but unable to Advance at NCAA Track

GREENSBORO, NC – South Carolina State sophomore Monique Gracia tied her personal record with a time of 13.69 in the 100 meter hurdles Friday at the NCAA East Preliminary Round at Irwin Belk Track on the North Carolina A&T campus, however, the Miami native finished 28^th overall in the event and only the top 24 advanced to Saturday’s quarterfinals. The Lady Bulldogs’ Alexandria Jones, another sophomore, also failed to advance in the 200 meters.

SC State Men Finish 4th; Women Finish 3rd at the 2010 MEAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships

Greensboro, NC—The SC State men’s and women’s outdoor track and field teams improved immensely as they finished 4^th and 3^rd at the 2010 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Outdoor Track & Field Championships. The championships were contested at the Irwin Belk Track on the campus of North Carolina A&T State University. Sophomore Shamire Rothmiller finished the meet with 22 points to capture the Outstanding Field Athlete award.
