Three SC State Performers Remain in NCAA Track

Track and Field Update

GREENSBORO – After Friday's preliminaries, only three South Carolina State participants remain in the 2009 NCAA East Regional Track and Field Championships being conducted at the Irvin Belk Track.

Scheduled to compete for SC State on Saturday are junior triple jumper Jasmine Smith, who entered the competition with the 10th best mark (12.77m) in the Region, freshman Shamire Rothmiller in the shot put (14.97m), and freshman Noel Facey in the men's discus (45.93m).

On Friday, freshman Monique Gracia finished third in her heat in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 13.96 and a 20th place showing overall, however, she failed to make Saturday's finals as only the top eight advanced.

Also failing to advance for SC State Friday were freshman Donta Young in the 110-meter hurdles (14.67) and junior Nicole Mobley in the 100 meters (11.95), and senior Tempest Vance in the 400-meter hurdles (101.01), who as also third in her heat.
