SC State Dominates Savannah State in Women's Softball
Senior Emerald Freeman Goes Five-of-Five with One Walk on the Day

Orangeburg, SC—Senior Emerald Freeman was five-of-five, including her first homerun of the season, as SC State defeated Savannah State, 8-0 and 9-1, in a non-conference double-header at the Lady Bulldog Field on the campus of SC State.
Game One was a defensive game through the first three innings. SC State (5-22) bats came to life in the bottom of the fourth when they scored five runs off five hits and one error. Savannah State threatened in the top of the fifth as they managed to get two runners on base with two outs; however, the Tigers could not capitalize leaving the runners stranded on first and second. The Lady Bulldogs put up three additional runs in its half of the fifth inning to secure the 8-0 victory over the Tigers.
SC State carried its momentum into Game Two getting on the scoreboard first with two runs in the bottom of the first inning. Savannah State could not find any offense until the fourth inning when Crystal Williams led off the inning with a base hit. The Tigers pulled within one run of the Lady Bulldogs when Tiffany Taylor hit an RBI double to score Williams. The one run game would be short-lived as the Lady Bulldogs put up three runs of their own in the fourth to go ahead 5-1. SC State put up four runs in the bottom of the fifth to come away with the 9-1 Game Two victory.
Kimberlee Pereira and Raven Johnson picked up the wins in Games One and Two respectively, while Krystle Frost and Rachel West was the losers.
Game Notes: Emerald Freeman hit a homerun, two triples, two singles and one walk on the day…The Lady Bulldogs committed a season low one error on the day.

Orangeburg, SC—The SC State women’s softball team split a non-conference softball double-header with Youngstown State, 6-4 and 0-12. The match-up, was contested at the Lady Bulldog Softball Field on the campus of SC State.
The offense for both teams started early in Game One as Youngstown State put up one run in its half of the first inning. SC State quickly rebounding putting up two runs of their own in the bottom of the first.

Orangeburg, SC – The South Carolina State University women’s softball team will open its 2010 season this weekend at the 3rd Annual Tiny Laster’s Fastpitch Softball Tournament.
The tournament, which is scheduled for Friday – Sunday, Feb. 12-14 in Atlanta, GA, will feature eight teams from the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC), and five teams from the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC). In addition to South Carolina State participants from the MEAC include Morgan State, Hampton University, University of Maryland Eastern Shore, Norfolk State, Florida A&M, Winston Salem State and North Carolina A&T. The teams representing the SWAC are Grambling State University, Tennessee State University, Mississippi Valley State University, Alabama A&M University, and Alcorn State University.
