WINSTON-SALEM, NC – The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference tournament tips off Tuesday at the Lawrence Joel Veteran Memorial Coliseum with the 10th seeded South Carolina State women (6-22, 3-13 MEAC) taking on 7th seeded  Florida A&M (12-16, 7-9 MEAC) in the opening game at 11 a.m. The winner will advance to Wednesday’s 10 a.m. quarterfinals against number two-seeded Coppin State.

The Lady Bulldogs split their two meetings with FAMU during the regular season, losing 82-45 at Tallahassee Feb. 2, before taking an 82-75 win at Orangeburg Mar. 2.

The SC State men (16-13, 10-6), who earned the second seed, swing into action Wednesday at 9:30 p.m. against the survivor of Tuesday’s matchup between 7th seeded Hampton (15-15, 8-8 MEAC) and Delaware State (8-23, 6-10), the 10th seed.

If the Bulldogs win on Wednesday, the will have Thursday off, then resume play Friday in semifinal action at 8 p.m.

During the regular campaign, Coach Tim Carter’s team won its only meeting against Delaware State, 69-52, at Dover Jan. 10. The Bulldogs split with Hampton, losing 74-60 at Hampton Jan. 17 and winning 74-71 in overtime Feb. 14 at Orangeburg.

Hampton, despite being the 7th seed, defeated number one Morgan State twice during the regular season, handing the Bears two of their three MEAC losses. Florida A&M was the only other league team to beat Morgan State, which earned victories over the Maryland Terrapins and DePaul during the season.
