SC State Teams Host BC-C In MEAC Basketball Play On " Senior Day"

ORANGEBURG, SC—The South Carolina State men’s and women’s basketball team will host the visiting Wildcats of Bethune-Cookman University in a pivotal MEAC doubleheader Saturday at S-H-M. The women will tip-off at 2 p.m, with the men following at  4 p.m.
SC State will celebrate “Senior Day” honoring its senior players on both women’s and men’s basketball teams at halftime.
The SC State (13-13, 8-6 MEAC) men are coming of an heartbreaking  85-92 loss to MEAC rival North Carolina A&T Monday, are locked in a three-way tie for third place with Bethune-Cookman and Coppin State.
The visiting Wildcats enter the contest with a 14-14 overall, and 8-6 league record. Bethune-Cookman has won the last two contests in the conference with victories over Delaware State and UMES on last week.
Coach Tim Carter’s Bulldogs could finish high in the league standings with wins over Bethune-Cookman and Florida A&M on Monday.
The Bulldogs are led by senior center Jason Johnson, the team’s top scorer (14.6 ppg) and rebounder (8.5). Junior forward Jason Flagler is second in both categories with 13.2 points and 6.0 rebounds, respectively.
The SC State women (6-18, 3-10 MEAC), will try to get back on the winning track after dropping a tough 83-74 decision to Lady Aggies of North Carolina A&T. The Lady Bulldogs are led by senior Marie Reid with 15.4 ppg and 5.9 rpg. Junior Sophilia Hipps is second in scoring with 14.8 ppg, while grabbing 4.2 rebounds per contest.
South Carolina will round out the last MEAC conference game on the regular season on Monday when they host the Rattlers of Florida A&M in a doubleheader. Tip-off for the women is 5:30 p.m., followed by the men at 7:30 p.m.

ORANGEBURG, SC—SC State had three players to score in double-figures but it wasn’t enough as the Lady Bulldogs suffered a 67-60 loss to the UNC-Asheville at Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center.
 
SC State appeared to have their offense working as they jumped out to an early six point lead (8-2) at the 13:27 minute mark of the first half.
