ORANGEBURG, SC – The South Carolina State bowling and cross country teams will be in action this weekend (Dec. 5-6), with the bowling team hosting the MEAC Southern Division meet at Shaw Air Force Base in Sumter, and the indoor track teams traveling to Appalachian State.

            The Bowling match will be held at the Shaw Lanes from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday (Dec. 5-6). Joining SC State in the field are Bethune-Cookman, Florida A&M, North Carolina A&T, Norfolk State and Winston-Salem State.

            Two Sumter area natives are on the Lady Bulldog seven-person bowling roster. They are senior Mirisa Hicks and freshman Marina Akers, both graduates of Crestwood High.

            The Appalachian State Invitational track meet will be the first indoor competition of the season for the SC State men and women. The one-day (Dec. 5) meet will begin Saturday morning at 10:30. The Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs are expected to be competitive in several events, including the 4x400 meter relay team, the triple jump the long jump, the shot put, the 55-meter hurdles, the mile run and the 200 meters on the women’s side and the 55-meters, mile run, 55-meter hurdles, 200 meters, triple jump and long jump in the men’s competition.
