SC State’s Young Earns MEAC Weekly Honor

 

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va., – South Carolina State’s Oliver “Tre” Young was selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Offensive Player of the Week, the conference announced on Monday. 

 

Young (WR, 6-1, 190, Sr., Charleston, SC) became South Carolina State’s all-time receptions leader after catching six passes for 166 yards with two touchdowns in the Bulldogs 37-13 win over Morgan State.  He also racked up 313 all-purpose yards, including four punt returns for 104 yards, and one kickoff return for 39 yards as helped the Bulldogs clinch their second straight MEAC title. 

 
Also, earning honors were Terrell Whitehead of Norfolk State  who was named the Defensive Player of the Week, Kory Kowalski of Bethune-Cookman earned Rookie of the Week honors while Markeece Preston, also of Norfolk State, earned Offensive Lineman of the Week accolades. Jahmal Blanchard of Hampton was selected as the Special Teams Player of the Week, respectively.

Johnny Culbreath (SCSU) anchored the Bulldogs blocking that accounted for 448 yards of total offense. He also tallied seven pancake blocks, with two sacks yielded, and graded out at 88-percent of his assignments in the win.

 

Markee Hamlin (SCSU) tallied six tackles, five solo, with one interception and one recovered fumble in the Bulldogs 37-13 win over Morgan State.

ORANGEBURG, SC- South Carolina State was back at it again, conducting its second full scrimmage of spring drills. Friday’s scrimmage was cut short due to bad weather, but Coach Buddy Pough’s team managed to get in 50 plays in 1 hour 15 minutes before heading to the lockeroom.
