SC State Golf Teams Compete at Charleston
Both Teams Hope to Rebound on Tuesday

CHARLESTON, SC – The SC State men and women’s golf teams were in action Monday in matches hosted by Charleston Southern, and both struggled on difficult courses amid blustery conditions.

            The Lady Bulldogs, competing in the 36-hole CSU Wendy’s Invitational at Coosaw Creek Country Club were in 14th place in the 15-team field after carding an 18-hole team total of 358 in the opening round. Host College of Charleston leads the field with a 298. The final 18 holes will be played Tuesday.

            Junior Honesty Biggers fired an 18-hole total of 77, 6-over par, to lead SC State. The Orlando junior is tied for 13th in the field. No other Lady Bulldog was in the top 60.

            The SC State men, who are participating in the six-team CSU Fall Invitational at the Crowfield Golf & Country Club, trail the entire field after 36 holes in the 54-hole event which winds up Tuesday. The Bulldogs shot a team total of (395-385) 780. Host CSU sat atop the standings with a 36-hole total of (307-295) 602.

            Sophomore Roberto Cacho carded a 36-hole total of (81-77) 158 to lead the Bulldogs and is tied for 20th overall with 18 holes remaining. Senior Hector Arroyave was two strokes back with a (78-82) 160.

PINE HURST, NC – The South Carolina State women’s golf team carded a 332 Tuesday (Nov. 3) to shave 11 strokes off its first-round total, however, the Lady Bulldogs were unable to climb in the standings in finishing 15th at the Pine Hurst Fall Challenge played at the Pine Hurst No. 6 course. The Lady Bulldogs finished the event with a 36-hole total (343-332) of 675.
