SC State’s Ayers Earns MEAC Weekly Honors

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va., – South Carolina State junior defensive lineman Jason Ayers was selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Defense Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday.

 

Ayers (DE, 6-3, 250, r-Jr., Clio, SC) spearheaded the Bulldog defense that limited Florida A&M to 35 yards rushing in a 35-20 SCSU victory.  He produced six tackles, four solos, with three for a loss of 19 yards and added one sack, two quarterback hurries and forced a fumble in the win. 

 

Also receiving honors were Norfolk State's Dennis Brown was selected as the Offensive Player of the Week and teammate Jerome Johnson earned Offensive Lineman of the Week accolades. Andra Williams of Howard earned Rookie of the Week honors and Nicholas Adams of Morgan State was selected as the Special Teams Player of the Week, respectively.

 

Other Top Bulldog Performers

 

Johnny Culbreath (SCSU) anchored the Bulldogs interior line that accounted for 370 total offensive yards.  He recorded five pancake blocks and graded out at 84-percent on his assignment in the Bulldogs victory. 

 

Will Ford (SCSU) became South Carolina State's all-time leading rusher after he recorded 24 carries for 141 yards with two touchdowns in the Bulldogs 35-20 win over Florida A&M.
