Soccer Team Battles Longwood to a 1-1 tie

ORANGEBURG, SC – The SC State soccer team and visiting Longwood battled to a double overtime 1-0 decision Friday evening at O.C. Dawson Stadium. Both teams scored second-half goals but were unable to get on the scoreboard in the two overtimes.

            Coach Glad Bugariu’s team improved to 8-5-1 on the season.

            Janine Francois, a senior, scored the lone goal for the Lady Bulldogs off an assist from Brooke Ehinger at the 81st minute to pull SC State into a 1-1 tie. Longwood’s Michelle DeSieno had put the visitors ahead 1-0 with a goal at the 79th minute.

            Ehinger had seven shots and the one assist to lead the Bulldogs. Francois had three shots for SC State. Reserve goalkeepers Danielle Murphy and Mariah Hebbe, filling in for regular Alechia Brothers, combined for seven saves.

            The SC State women, who are celebrating “Parents’ Weekend,” will return to action Sunday when they host Howard in a Great West Conference match, beginning at 1 p.m.

Farmville, VA--The SC State women's soccer team dropped a non-conference match up to Longwood, 1-3.
 
SC State (1-1-1) got on the board early off an Olivia Moore goal (assisted by Briana Lopez) at the 9:35 mark. Defensively, the Lady Bulldogs had to play a man down for majority of the game as the goal keeper was dismissed from the game inside the 12th minute.

Lopez, a forward from Santa Barbara, Calif., captures offensive player of the week honors with a goal and an assist in the 2-1 upset victory over Navy. The freshman assisted on the game's first goal to put the Lady Bulldogs up, 1-0, then collected the game winner in the 87th minute - just 20 seconds after Navy tied the game.

Orangeburg, SC--South Carolina State head women’s soccer coach Glad Bugariu, announced the addition of four players to the 2010 recruiting class. Earlier this fall, the Lady Bulldogs coach announced the signing of three players to a National Letter of Intent. Signing a National Letter of Intent this spring are Rebecca Dale, Briana Lopez, Gabby Norby, and Tori Papp.
