SC State Men’s and Women’s Track Resume Indoor Competition

Head Coach Tyree Price
Orangeburg, SC—The SC State men's and women's track teams will resume its 2008 indoor track competition, this Friday and Saturday, Jan. 11-13, at the Virginia Tech Invitational in Blacksburg, VA.
Both the teams returned to practice on January 3rd after having a two week break for the holidays.
Despite the break, head coach Tyree Price is optimistic about how the team will hold up at the meet. “I think the strength and endurance of both teams should be high since we have had two-a-day practices for the last week,” said Coach Price.
The meet will showcase some of the top ten teams in the nation including in-state foe University of South Carolina as well as host Virginia Tech.
As far as improvement, Coach Price feels both teams will improve on its opening meet which was on December 1-2 at Clemson. “The athletes should have good showings this weekend with the high level of competition,” said Price. “For the women I think the 4x400 meter relay will definitely improve on their last outing and Jasmine Smith should continue her progression in the triple jump,” says Price. “As for the men, Lavar Knight should improve upon his long jump distance from the Clemson meet.”
Overall, Price is confident that both teams we will have a great showing and have more qualifiers for the MEAC Championships that will be contested in February. He believes that this will be the meet that will give a good outlook on the remaining of the indoor season.
