SC State Volleyball Goes 0-2 on Day One of the High Point Radisson Invitational

 
High Point, NC—The SC State volleyball team went 0-2 on day one of the High Point Radisson Invitational in High Point, North Carolina. The tournament, which is hosted by High  Point University, is being played in Mills Center on the campus of High Point University.

In its first match of the day, the Lady Bulldogs could not find its offense as they fell to East Carolina University, 3-0, (12-25, 11-25, 18-25), as they were held to just 25 kills for a .059 attack percentage. Freshman Peri Ligons (pronounced Lig-gens) and Senior Gisela Kloss led the way for the Lady Bulldogs with six kills each. Freshmen Bria Brimmer and Lauren Harris led the way in assists and digs with 22 and 10 respectively.
 
Stephanie Turner had eight kills and Katie Koop had 30 assists to lead East Carolina in the victory.
 
In its second match of the day, SC State (1-5) was much more competitive. Despite falling to Marist, 0-3, (15-26, 26-28, 21-25), the Lady Bulldogs had its best offensive showing of the season. After dropping the first set of the match, 15-25, SC State would force Marist to extra points in set two. The Lady Bulldogs held the lead in set two until they committed five straight unforced errors which allowed Marist to take a 15-16 lead. The teams exchanged points for

the remainder of the set with the SC State eventually falling 26-28.
 
Set three began with the teams exchanging points. Marist took what looked liked control of the game, going up by three, 11-13. SC State fought back taking a 16-15 lead. The two teams would exchange the lead until the 18-19 mark where Marist took the lead for good, eventually winning the set by four, 21-25 and sealing the 3-0 victory.
 
The Lady Bulldogs had a more balanced attack as Ligons put down 11 kills with eight digs and Sophomore Jarne Gleaton and Kloss recording nine and eight kills respectively. Brimmer put up 31 assists while Harris recorded double-digit digs with 13.
 
Joanna Foss led all attackers with 14 kills while Emily Brosky picked up 12 digs in the win.
 
SC State will face UNC-G at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 6 and will close out the tournament against host High Point at 2 p.m. on Saturday.   Saturday's game versus High Point will be streamed live via the Big South Website at a cost of $4.95. Click Here if you would like to purchase the game.
